A Theme of Identity
Our YouMatterJournaling theme for last month was all about Gratitude for ourselves. This month we're going to explore and celebrate our Identity. If you've not already downloaded the December calendar with our theme and prompts listed, you can do so here.
Month 2, Prompt 2
We all know the song, "I Left my Heart in San Francisco." (If you're not familiar with it, here you go.)
Everyone is shaped and formed in some way by his or her place of origin. Whether it's the bustling city life or the serene countryside, studies show that we're influenced by where we live. And because we are influenced by where we currently live, logic would lead me to believe that where we were born affects who we are today too. We carry our birthplace in our hearts more than we realize.
Where were you born? What was it like living in that area? Have you moved away from your place of birth, or are you still nearby?
How has your birthplace shaped who you are and what you value? For instance, I grew up near Philadelphia. People in Philadelphia and America very much value Independence.
What was the environment and weather like? Do you prefer the cold or warmer seasons because of where you grew up?
Did you move very often when you were younger? How have those moves influenced your identity today?
I can't wait to see you what you create.
- For this week, you may want to trace a map of your state or country of birth. Inside the map, draw the words that describe what you value because of that location.
Note: the best way to be featured on our Instagram page would be to photograph your pages in natural lighting on a white background.
